Zazen (Japanese: literally "sitting Zen" or "Zen sitting") is the core practice at ZCLA. Our How-To-Sit page describes the the basic physical and mental posture. In a secular context, it is popular as a simple technique for cultivating focused attention, awareness of oneself, and general stability. Beyond this, Zen Buddhist teachings recognize it as nothing less than the embodiment of the awakened mind.

Small group instruction in zazen fundamentals is offered on a weekly basis. Practice-related face-to-face individual meetings with our teachers usually available during scheduled sittings.

See Calendar for our schedule of zazen and related activities.
